Frequently Asked Questions

Dijilele S is designed for people looking for a more flexible and approachable way to start making music. It is especially suited to first-time learners, children, and anyone taking their first steps into music.

With its simple, low-maintenance design, Dijilele S helps beginners focus on learning without feeling overwhelmed by the instrument itself. For parents and educators, it can also serve as a gentle introduction to music before transitioning to an acoustic instrument.

Dijilele M is especially well suited to those interested in microtonality, non-Western musical traditions, and more advanced listening and expressive skills.

For educators, Dijilele M can also serve as a bridge between structured learning and more nuanced musical exploration before introducing acoustic traditional instruments.

Dijilele shares some of the things that make a soprano ukulele approachable: a compact form, a familiar fretboard-style playing experience, and a size that works well for smaller hands.

But Dijilele S is a digital musical instrument, not simply a traditional acoustic ukulele with electronics added to it.

That difference is intentional.

Because the sound is generated digitally, learners can make music without dealing with some of the physical and maintenance challenges associated with traditional string instruments. Dijilele can also connect with MIDI-compatible digital music tools when learners want to explore beyond its standalone sounds.

So if you were interested in a MIDI or digital ukulele for kids, what you may actually be looking for is something slightly different:

A small, approachable musical instrument that feels physical enough to play but digital enough to explore.

That’s the space Dijilele S was designed for.

The main difference is about musical focus and personal preference, not difficulty.

  • Dijilele S emphasizes clarity, confidence, and accessibility, making it especially approachable for beginners.
  • Dijilele M offers a different playing experience, with greater emphasis on microtonality, expressive range, and musical nuance.

Choosing between them depends not only on where you are in your learning journey, but also on the kind of musical experience you want to explore.

When played as standalone instruments, both Dijilele S and Dijilele M have no noticeable latency.

When connected wirelessly to a DAW via Bluetooth, there may be a small amount of latency. In our experience, it has been minimal enough that most users are comfortable playing this way (<10 ms).
