Designed to support microtonal music, Dijilele M offers musicians opportunities to work with the sounds and musical structures associated with instruments such as the Taar and Setar, while connecting with modern music production tools.

How do you play chords on Dijilele?

One of the audience’s questions was about playing chords on Dijilele.

In response, Ali demonstrated the instrument’s chord mode, showing how players can perform major and minor triads. He also shared an update on an ongoing development project to map commonly used chords onto the instrument’s fretboard.

This feature opens up further possibilities for musicians interested in combining Persian melodies with harmony, songwriting, and digital composition.

Dijilele M Lessons Are Coming to Richmond Hill

The showcase ended with an exciting announcement: Dijilele M lessons are coming to the Greater Toronto Area!

Hosted at Naseri Piano Institute (NPI) in Richmond Hill, the lessons will be taught by Mehrdad Jafari Raad, who holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree and is an award-winning sound artist and film music composer.

The classes will offer two learning streams, depending on participants’ musical backgrounds and interests.

The first stream is designed for beginners who want to learn Persian music but may not be familiar with the structure or playing techniques of traditional instruments such as the Taar and Setar. Through Dijilele M, students will be introduced to Persian melodies, musical structures, and performance techniques.

The second stream is intended for existing Taar and Setar players who are interested in extending their musical practice into digital composition. Students will learn about MIDI, electronic sounds, music software, and arranging, while exploring ways to bring their existing knowledge of Persian music into a digital environment.

Both streams will be open to interested participants, and registration is available through Naseri Piano Institute.
