On August 30, 2026, Dijilele M came to Toronto for the first time. We spent the afternoon making music, learning, and exploring the instrument at Skymark Centre Avondale.

Musicians, educators, learners, and curious guests joined us to discover Dijilele M and try it for themselves.

Introducing Dijilele M

The workshop began with a demonstration from the Dijilele founders, who introduced the instrument, shared some of its capabilities, and answered questions from the audience.

Guests learned how Dijilele M combines the familiarity of a fretted instrument with digital sound, alternative tuning systems, MIDI capabilities, and microtonal music.

Four Musical Traditions, One Instrument

Next, award-winning film composer and music educator Mehrdad Jafari Raad demonstrated the musical range of Dijilele M.

Through four pieces inspired by Iranian, Turkish, Arabic, and Classical, Mehrdad explored how the instrument can move between different musical traditions, sounds, and tuning systems.

Learning and Playing Together

A group of beginner musicians then took the stage to demonstrate what they had learned on Dijilele M.

They performed two Persian songs in two different ways: first using Dijilele M as a standalone instrument, and then connected to DAW music software. The demonstration showed how the same instrument can support both simple, self-contained playing and more layered digital music-making.

Then it was the audience’s turn.

Guests had a chance to hold the instrument, explore its interface, and learn to play a simple melody together. For many, it was their first hands-on experience with Dijilele.

We ended the afternoon with a meet-and-greet, conversations, networking, and light refreshments.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, played with us, and shared your thoughts. Bringing Dijilele M to Toronto for the first time was an important milestone for our team, and we were happy to experience it with such a curious and welcoming group.
